the australian employment law changes you need to know.

Big changes are coming to Australian employment law from July 1 - and they affect you.

Whether you’re a small business owner with employees to pay & manage, or you’re a worker who needs to know their rights, here’s a run-down of what’s changing & how it will impact you.

PAY DAY SUPER

From July 1, businesses will be required to pay superannuation at the same time as wages/salaries.

Every ordinary time earnings payment will trigger a seven-day deadline for super to be processed & received by employees’ super funds.

CHANGES TO PAID PARENTAL LEAVE

From July 1, eligible parents will be able to access up to 26 weeks of government-funded paid parental leave, up from the 24 weeks that was introduced in 2025.

The amount of leave reserved for each parent in a couple will also increase from three weeks to four weeks on a “use it or lose it” basis.

MINIMUM WAGE & AWARD INCREASES

The Fair Work Commission’s annual Wage Review decision will be handed down in early June.

Updated minimum wages & modern award rates will take effect from the first full pay period on or after July 1.
